County environmental health officials today posted advisory signs just south of the Pismo Beach pier warning beach-goers to avoid contact with the water due to high bacteria levels.
The stretch of beach south of the pier has, by far, the most water quality troubles of any beach in the county. Warning signs are typically posted several times a month during the summer.
Bird droppings from the pier are the suspected source.
County health workers have taken another water sample. The warning signs will stay posted as long as samples continue to show high bacteria levels.
