The City Council recently enacted a new ban on tobacco products in various outdoor areas of the City, including City parks, trails, open space, sports facilities, bus shelters, bus stops, and Mission Plaza and creek walk. The ordinance language is below. Enforcement of the ordinance will be conducted by Park Rangers and SLOPD officers using the Administrative Citation process. The fine structure is $100 for a first violation; $200 for a second violation within 12 months; $500 for a third violation within 12 months.
Signage for these areas is in the process of being installed. Once the signage is in place, officers can issue administrative citations for the offense.
