Saturday events in SLO, Atascadero promote alternatives to fossil fuels

Locals will promote alternatives to using fossil fuels on Saturday in Atascadero and San Luis Obispo, and in other cities worldwide, to promote a climate change awareness campaign called Moving Planet.

The North County Moving Planet Rally will feature bicyclists, skateboarders, equestrians, pedestrians, runners and all other users of alternative transportation in a trek from Atascadero Lake Park to the Sunken Gardens.
The event begins with a 12:45 p.m. meet-up at the Veterans Memorial at Atascadero Lake Park off Morro Road. Participants will then head downtown to Sunken Gardens on El Camino Real at 1 p.m.
At 2 p.m., there will be a large group picture taken at Sunken Gardens followed by a musical event from 2:30 to 9 p.m. there.
The San Luis Obispo event is designed as a bike-run event with checkpoints throughout town. Participants can pick up a list of checkpoints at the Steynberg Gallery Café, 1530 Monterey St., from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday.
A 5 p.m., participants, including kids, will make posters at Cambria Bicycle Outfitters, 1422 Monterey St., followed by a group photo at 6:30 p.m.
Participants will then head over to the Steynberg Gallery at 7 p.m. for a raffle, free appetizers, guest speakers and film screening with community discussion.
A bike valet will be offered in the gallery’s back parking lot and rideshares are available.
